After kicking off his much talked about CRWN series with Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator, Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson returned last week with guest J. Cole. Held at New York City’s Highline Ballroom, the Roc Nation MC and YN had an in-depth conversation amongst a sold-out crowd of hardcore Cole World fans.

They discuss Cole’s upcoming Born Sinner album, how his mixtapes (The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights) came about, and when he felt his music started making an impact. The DreamVillain speaks on his relationship with Jay-Z despite past online criticism, the decision to not use rap features on Born Sinner, rapport with Kanye West and going against his Yeezus LP on June 18. From there, the duo close out touching on J. Cole’s friendship with Kendrick Lamar, being slept on as a producer and future plans of getting noticed as a top beatsmith.
